Energy Solutions for Business

The Energy Solutions for Business Program is available to all commercial, industrial, and other non-residential customers located within the FirstEnergy New Jersey service territory.  Below are the programs currently available. Costs of these programs may be recovered through customer rates in accordance with New Jersey law. 

By participating in the Company’s energy efficiency and peak demand reduction programs, customers agree their electric utility will maintain ownership of all Capacity Rights from electric savings measures, which refers to the demand reduction associated with any energy efficiency and peak demand reduction measure for which incentives were provided by the Company. Your electric utility will aggregate these energy efficiency demand reduction attributes into the PJM capacity market as appropriate, with proceeds being used to reduce customers’ costs for the programs.

The JCP&L Energy Efficiency Programs provide access to low- or no-cost financing to promote easy and cost-effective access to energy efficiency measures. The financial options are listed under each program below.

  • Prescriptive Incentives

    Prescriptive measures are designed to provide cost-effective access to energy-efficient solutions. These programs encourage the adoption of high-efficiency electric and natural gas equipment by providing incentives to commercial and industrial customers. This includes energy-efficient lighting, appliances, heating and cooling systems, and food service equipment, among other efficiency measures.

  • Custom Equipment

    Custom measures offer performance-based incentives tailored to unique electric and natural gas efficiency opportunities for commercial, industrial and other non-residential customers. These incentives cater to non-standard, variable or specialized applications that fall outside the scope of prescriptive incentives. Custom projects are eligible for incentives in diverse and specialized areas, such as manufacturing, industry-specific processes and non-traditional use cases.

  • Custom Building

    Custom incentives typically have more complex needs and unique efficiency opportunities. This often includes light and heavy industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, data centers, and distribution centers, among others. Performance-based incentives are available for qualifying energy-efficient equipment, enabling the retrofit or upgrade to building shells or systems.

  • Retro-Commissioning (RCx)

    Retro Commissioning (RCx) measures offer a thorough evaluation of a customer's commercial/industrial building through a structured planning process. This process includes a detailed building audit, a tailored action plan, and the development of a Measurement and Verification (M&V) plan, ensuring the building and its systems achieve and maintain peak performance, providing long-term efficiency and reliability.

  • Virtual Commissioning (VCx)

    Virtual Commissioning (VCx) provides an analysis of a building's energy performance by leveraging interval meter and AMI usage data, combined with advanced modeling techniques. This process identifies and recommends potential energy efficiency measures, as well as behavioral and operational changes, to enhance the building's overall energy performance. The VCx program ensures continuous engagement through ongoing monitoring, detailed reporting and periodic reviews of the customer's energy use to ensure the implemented measures are effectively executed and sustained.

  • Strategic Energy Management (SEM)

    Strategic Energy Management (SEM) is a long-term initiative focused on developing and executing an energy management strategy. It is designed to optimize energy consumption for larger commercial/industrial customers through long-term management of major energy consumption systems. SEM provides a holistic approach that is focused on management of existing systems and behavioral processes, while also tracking and benchmarking performance to identify and evaluate energy optimization efforts.

  • Virtual-Strategic Energy Management (VSEM)

    Virtual Strategic Energy Management (VSEM) provides a virtual assessment of energy use over time, using meter data, remote analytics and building modeling, supporting ongoing energy saving strategies and initiatives involving building operations, systems and equipment.

  • Engineered Solutions

    Engineered Solutions Tier 1 offers customized, comprehensive energy efficiency support for projects requiring extensive auditing, technical assistance, and engineering expertise. This tier provides guided consultative services throughout the project, helping customers identify and undertake significant energy efficiency initiatives without any upfront costs. Customers will receive an in-depth audit of their facilities, along with detailed assessments and recommendations for economically viable energy efficiency measures. This pathway is particularly beneficial for larger participants in traditionally underserved market segments, such as municipal, university, school, and hospital (MUSH) customers, enabling them to achieve substantial energy savings.

    Engineered Solutions Tier 2 delivers tailored energy efficiency assistance to commercial and industrial customers for larger projects. This tier includes comprehensive facility audits to identify cost-effective energy efficiency measures. Customers have the flexibility to use their own engineering and installation contractors as well as approved trade allies who meet participation requirements. In addition to project-specific incentives, participants can opt for a repayment plan for the non-incentive portion of project costs.

  • Building Decarbonization

    Building Decarbonization focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions produced by the building sector by providing financial incentives for the direct installation and electrification of building heating, water heating, make-ready work, among other measures.

  • Direct Install

    Direct Install provides turnkey solutions for small business customers. Eligible equipment includes LED lighting, HVAC upgrades, controls, refrigeration, food services, motors, variable frequency drives and efficient water heating measures. Program may cover up to 70% or 80% of project costs.

    Building Tune-Up provides turnkey solutions for medium-sized business customers (over 300KW avg monthly demand). Eligible equipment includes LED lighting, HVAC upgrades, controls, refrigeration, food services, motors, variable frequency drives and efficient water heating measures. Program may cover up to 70% or 80% of project costs.

    HVAC Tune-Up provides a turnkey service that inspects and cleans the system's components, checking for leaks and blockages, and adjusting settings. This helps to maintain the system's efficiency and prevent issues like mold growth and water damage.
