Wildfire Information
Across our New Jersey service area, current weather conditions can increase the risk of fast-moving brush fires due to low humidity and higher wind speeds. We're actively monitoring conditions that could lead to wildfires so we can respond quickly to potential threats.
What are we doing?
We are taking proactive measures to temporarily disable certain pieces of power equipment to help reduce risk. This precaution will not disrupt power. We’re also cooperating closely with local first responders to coordinate preventative steps and emergency responses as needed. There are no active outages related to fires.
Our crews continue to be on standby to respond to any outages that may occur quickly and safely to minimize power disruptions.
What should you do?
We encourage you to be aware of the risk and take the following steps to protect yourself, your family and your property:
- Abide by restrictions in place from local authorities, such as the state Forest Fire Service.
- Avoid burning outdoors and using any equipment that creates sparks.
- Dispose of cigarettes responsibly. Never throw them from a moving vehicle.
- Clear dead shrubbery around your home and avoid parking vehicles on dry grass.
- Keep mobile devices charged and stay in touch with loved ones, especially those with disabilities or mobility issues.
- Install smoke detectors if needed or replace batteries in existing detectors. Considering purchasing fire extinguisher(s) for your home.
If you lose power, manage through safely by following these tips:
- Use a flashlight or battery-powered lantern for lighting. Use extreme caution when burning candles as open flames are a dangerous fire hazard.
- Assume all downed or low-hanging power lines are energized and dangerous. Stay at least 30 feet away from the line and anything it might be touching. Report downed lines ASAP to 9-1-1.
- Report your power outage.
Your safety is a top priority. As we continue to work to keep power flowing as safely as possible, we encourage you to stay informed, be aware of your surroundings and follow any restrictions in place for your area. By taking these steps together, we can help protect our community from the threat of wildfires.
