Glen Falls and Fairview Substation Equipment Replacement Project

Mon Power proposes to replace substation equipment at the terminal ends of the existing Glen Falls-Fairview 138 kV Transmission Line and the construction of a temporary transmission line bypass at one end. Mon Power Transmission Planning has identified transmission substation protection schemes that are using a certain vintage of substation electromechanical relays and communication equipment that have a history of misoperation at both the Glen Falls Substation and Fairview Substation.

FirstEnergy’s Energizing the Future (EtF) Standards call for enhancement of fault protection to reduce relay misoperations, reduce the number of transmission system elements removed from service during a fault and increase the availability of transmission system elements. From 2013 to present, there were four outages on the Glen-Falls-Fairview 138 kV Transmission Line that were the direct result of failed AC equipment.

This Project will mitigate the potential for outages of this nature and better serve the approximately 55.7MW of load and 5,556 customers served from this transmission line.
